More pics from Hellaflush Japan. I have too many pics to comment on or sort through so I am just gonna post em in the order I took em.
Enjoy!
Here’s a vid of a little touge drifting last Friday. It’s dark as shit, I’ll work on that somehow for next time.
Anyway here it is
I went down to check out the drifting at the Daikoku Futo PA last Friday, but the cops had the whole area on lockdown.
We ended up going to another spot nearby in Kawasaki, which they’ve been using for a while now.
I couldn’t find the charger for my other camera so I had to film with my GoPro, which isn’t very good in such low light.
Anyway ENJOY!
I had the day off work so I tested out my GoPro camera on a mountain road.
For the car fans out there you’ll see that some of the road is very “initial D-ish”. It’s a good drive, even in my slow-ass car.
Now that I’ve posted it on StanceWorks I’ll share it here….
When most people think of the modified car scene in Japan they think of drift cars, VIP saloons or even crazy kaido racer creations. However lowriders and hot rods have been big in Japan for quite some time now. I happen to live around the corner from ‘Low Key’, a lowrider and customs workshop in Kofu, a small city 120km west of Tokyo.
I’ve been there a few times to snap pics and to say hi to the guys, who are always very welcoming and have given me a tour of the workshop. I’m used to seeing a driveway of customer/staff cars and works in progress along their driveway as I head to and from work, however as I was passing the other day my jaw dropped…
Here’s another angle so you can see just how low this beast is.
They offered for me to take a seat inside, but at my height it would have been impossible. Then the smallest of the guys in the shop squished in to show me it could be done.
As you can see it has a ‘kari’ plate (temporary registration) and out of coincidence I happened to see the guys hooning it about later that night. They saw me and gave me a big thumbs up. I don’t think you could have slapped the grins off their faces, and isn’t that why we do these crazy things to our cars in the first place?
Here’s a couple of iPhone pics of my snow-plow Honda That’s. This was actually on Valentine’s Day a couple of weeks ago.
As you can see not many people wanted to be out and about in that snow. The shops in the mall were that empty that I caught some shop assistants from a womens clothes store outside playing in the snow hahaha
This past weekend we had one of the big of the big yearly ski trips that we have locally. Every year most of the gaijin English teachers head up to Hakuba to party up and hit the slopes.
Most people went up on Friday night or Saturday morning but I had work so I scored a ride with Coleman and some other’s who also had work.
EDIT: I forgot to resize the pics so they got squashed, but I’m too lazy to do it again so they’ll have to do
It started snowing while we were on the expressway so we put on the snow chains once we got off into Nagano
Size 13
…before the “real” snow hit.
20mins later! We were slowly going around a bend and just slid out and hit two on-coming cars (then another car hit them from behind).
None of us were hurt but one of the other drivers had whiplash or something.
We were in the middle of nowhere so we had a long wait for police, the ambulance and tow trucks in -5deg(ish) snow
I forced smile from Coleman. There wasn’t really much else we could do at the time as everything had gone to shit.

Coleman’s car. The front end was all smashed in so it’ll probably be wrecked.

One of the other cars involved.

Of the other cars, this X-Trail copped the worst damage. All of the coolant spewed out the bottom and it wouldn’t start.

The cops were getting their CSI on with measuring sticks and spray painting diagrams in the snow.
So after all the excitement of the accident we still had to find a way to get to Hakuba, a good 30-35kms away. I made a call and was told all of the cars were snowed in….great!
After a few calls we managed to find some sober people that were able to dig out a car and send someone to get us.
We made it in time to catch some of the party and had an awesome day of boarding the next day.
